    Hey everyone,
I just brought home an haitian pink tip anenome and put it in my tank and my peppermint shrimp went straight to attaching it! It keeps ripping the ends off and eating them. WTF? has anone ever heard of this? I cant seem to find ANY info on this particular anenome on the forum. I also put in some type of mushroom or something and when it found that , it started trying to eat it too! It hasnt found the other coral that I just put in there either, so i dont know. Think my Hawaiin Strawberry Crab will mess with any of this?

Didnt get to take pictures of it actually eating it, but here are some of the anenome.

    Anenome:

That unidentified coral is in fact NOT a coral at all! What it is is a problem anemone like that of Aiptasia! You will want to remove it from your tank before it grows and spreads throughout your tank! They will kill other fish, inverts and coral with its potent nematocysts!
As for your Peppermint shrimp, I find that odd in a sense as I have never heard or seen them attack condy anemones or mushrooms. I have Peppermint Shrimp in my tank with about 30 Mushrooms and an anemone though it is a different species of anemone(Pacific Long tentacle)!
You can try to move the position of the anemone to the otheer side of your tank and move the rocks around to change the surroundings, I guess, like you would do with the addition of a new fish and the aggression portrayed by one of the fish in your tank... Worth a try!
    Good luck!

Well I moved the rock to get some more flow on it as the anenome had started to put its "foot" under the rock that I had it on in the corner smushing it against the glass.. looks better in the middle of the tank imo.. The shrimp finally left it alone and there are still a few purple tips on the sand, I dont know if it was curious or just hungry, but I will remove it if it continues to be a problem.. Are you SURE that unidentified is Not coral? It was sold to me as coral from the LFS.. I bought the mushroom and "coral" for 10 bux, so losing 5 on the deal so it wont kill anything wont hurt my feelings, but there were many more in his sale tank and I remember seeing these in other tanks/LFS.. Here are some more pics of it..

PS. I am including some pics of the "mushroom". it seems to be plumping back up and almost like its moving, I had no idea these things could move. also, it seems to have "Developed" a mouth or something haha.. what do these things eat? I am still a noob :(

Now I have a better picture of it!!!!!!! Sorry from your other picture it looked like Mojano anemones!!!
What you have is Euphylia(hammer) coral!
That is a LPS. Just be careful as they have strong nematocysts which will kill other corals!!! They also have strong and long sweeper tentacles, so be careful with the placement of your Hammer around neighboring corals!

Anyone have info on 'spot feeding' this anenome? Should I be? I have 1 clown in the tank so I try not to put too much mysis shrimp in there. I thought I read something about feeding it or do they just need the light?

I recieved my timer today so for the past few days the lights have been off until I get home at 5 or so.. when I turned the lights on, it started filling out more and more. finally it was a bit bigger so I took some mysis shrimp in a little dropper thing and put it in its tenticles and squeezed it slowly.. it latched onto the tube and started grabbing the shrimp, so it may have just been hungry? Im no expert. i thought he was a goner for sure

My past experience with those anemones were that they expelled most of their water when they were digesting. They would also excrete waste at the same time. They would always fill back up and seemed hungry again. I would feed them 1 guppie a week, and they would do that every couple of weeks. I cut back to feeding them every two weeks and they rarely shrunk up.
