    Hi everyone,
I am considering adding a halfblack dwarf angelfish to my 75 Gallon Reef Tank. LFS said that coral nipping chances are 50/50. I have a dwarf flame angel that has never touched my corals. I do have a "killer" algae blenny that I would have to remove from the tank for the first week or so. Has anyone had any personal expereince with a halfblack dwarf angelfish in a reef tank?
    Thanks,
    Jim

i decided to take a chance on a lemmon peel smokey angelfish which is half halfback half lemmonpeel. I've only had him for a few days, the only coral he really goes after is my SPS, and has picked at my brain a bit, he was really bad with the coral the first two days but has gotten much better, still nips at thema little bit, but nothing like he had been. He also leaves my clam LPS and softies alone.

Others will have their opinion but it really comes down to if your willing to take a risk. I love my angel he adds so much color to the tank, and although he is still shy adds a lot of movment to the tank.

I would also recommend feeding multiple times a day to try to lessen the chances on him eating/picking at the coral and because of their high motablisim. and feed mainly alagae base foods along with seaweed/nori, i have upped my feedings to 3-4 times today.

So its up to you if your willing to take a chance at it, i got yelled at by members for wanting to try one in my reef but went for it anways.

Good luck, its your decision in the end if your willing to take the risk with the corals :D

Just like your lfs said it's a 50/50 chance good luck as I'm wanting a dwarf angel myself. I just don't want to take the chance on him nipping at my corals and clams.

IMO its not safe to ever add a dwarf angel to a reef. Yes, theres always the chance it wont touch corals...but its much more likely to nip/eat your corals then not! Its a risk...

I think you will have more of an issue with adding a second dwarf angel to your tank. Your not only risking the fish eating/nipping your corals, but you are also risking that one angel will kill the other one as they are many times not compatible with each other in smaller tanks. The halfblack dwarf angel should especially not be kept with other dwarf angels as they are more aggressive. So, IMO, I would not add that fish to your existing tank.

It's just one of those thing you have to try if you want it.

I added a flame angle and a lemonpeel angel to my tank a couple of weeks ago and neither of them are picking at anything except all the rock.

My lemonpeel picks once in a blue moon at some Kenya Tree coral I have but I dont really mind. The polyps close up....he goes away....the polyps open again and all is fine.

    Update

Thanks everyone for all of the feedback. It took me a week but I finally trapped my "killer" algae blenny and put him in a seperate tank. I purchased the halfblack dwarf angel fish (Centropyge vrolikii) yesterday. Initially, my flame angelfish tried to harrass it a little (but no more than he did to the royal gramma I previously added). However, the new fish stood his ground and everyone seems to be getting along now. So far, I have not witnessed in coral nipping.
    Thanks again,
    Jim
