Halide bulb question

    I just got an lighting system that has two slots for 175 watt double ended halide bulbs. Can you put 150 watt DE halide bulbs in a 175 watt unit?

    I thought 150 were de and 175 was se.

    idk but they would need a whoole new socket then, one is singel ended the other has two

    No this says it is 175 watt de halide bulb it is the same slot you would use for a 150 watt de. THey used to make 175 watt DE

    Actually you could fry the bulb since it will be receiving more power than it was design to use. It might possibly explode.

    +1 on frying the bulb and not the ballast. If anything, it will overdrive the bulb, which will shorten it's lifespan.

    Only a Select-a-Watt style ballast will allow you to run those two types of bulbs.

    For the Record: There are SE bulbs in both 150 and 175 watts. The size of them is different though. The 175 uses the same socket as the 250 and 400 watt bulbs.
