Hey just set up my halides and when they are on I maintain good temp 77-78 w/ out heater but now they have shut off and my temp is dropping should I put my heater on a timer for when the halides come on and off or what do you do?

your heater should have some sort of thermostat control. Set it to a regular temp; no need for a timer

What type of heater do you have?how many watts? Does it have a temp setting? how big is your tank? How much is the temp dropping? I would set up some type of heater if the temp is droping after the lights go out.

well, if it has a control, it should shut itself off once a certain temp is reached

My tank is a 75 w/ 30 gallon sump the heater is a 150w thermo im pretty sure that it does not shut off when a certain temp is reached do I need to get on on those heaters. This heater was fine b/c I have been running PC's but I want to make sure I set everything up right with the Halides.
    THANKS

run a couple of heaters on something like a racho controller if you can. By running multiple smaller heaters adds extra protection so if one fails on it won't over heat the tank or if it fails off the other heater is still there until it get replace.
