I have cycled many tanks many ways and I have never found a more rock solid way then with the use of a single yellow tailed blue Damsel.
But just use ONE! only one no matter if the tank is a 15 or 1,500 gal tank and when the tank is cycled just leave it in there for a job well done and call it an early retirement Beat life on the reef :) They are shy docile and wimps .. But just use one and only one.. two can lead to a pair and then mater problems.. And they are a nice looking little fish to have also I think..

my opinion...is u can never have enough light....but while your tank is naked you don't need much light at all. your lighting although a major factor in all photosynthetic organisms...it also contributes to your bio load...or photosynthetic fellas (microalgea and plankton/diatoms) in your water column. so running your big lights for 12 hours a day with nothing in your tank to gobble it will pretty much turn it green in a few days...lol like I did....trust me...as for I am rookie myself like u and learned the hard way, only a 1 year reefer but deep wallet to buy the fancy lights and toys. my 120 gal reef (48x24x24) sports 2 400w mh 10,000k, 1 250k MH 20,000k, 2 96w pc 6,700k, 2 96w pc actinic blue 03, and 2 luner strips...which is 12 watts per gallon 2 times what you are going to run.

I was a hero at first and set it all up to run a full day night deal with my new fancy timers with just my new rock in the tank...all I grew was muck. My tank was a constant shade of green. being the big newbie just thought I was cyclying the $@%@%@ out of my tank so did many water changes...about 500 dollars later in salt....lol I got things figured out and only ran my big lights a couple hours a day..and the tank got clear quick.

You got a good deal on some nice lights, as a fellow rookie I suggest you listen to these experts telling you to slowly intro it...otherwise your savings will go out the window in salt. Salt is the most expensive thing I have put into my tank...lol

    Hope that helps

for got to add, run your actinics 16 hours a day...you will be please in the coriline algea growth,,,(thats the good stuff) I clean my windows every 3 days and coralin algea is my biggest headache that and rotifer eggs...i really don't get much algea on the glass with all of my live rock anf fake live rock full of coraline algea.

I learned this stuff from Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation Home Page

Also in my opinion the best and cheapest place on the web to buy crabs and snails....no matter what type its a buck a piece...I have over 400 crabs and snails in my tank big savings since most want 2 bucks for nass. and turbos

    hope that helps as well,
    Bill

i need to complete all my thoughts before clicking go...sorry for 3 in a row...i cycled my tank with the same blue green chromis that you pictured. I used 5 of them rather then the one these long termers suggest and they all are still alive, i did mine wrong and in a mucky mess....they are now all about 3 inches long or so and awesome fish in my community. so if one fish is the propper thing to do you will be happy with that fish...i like mine and 2 of the 5 take flake food from my fingers now which is fun. I also have read that the blue/green chromis will live 8-15 years...that is just like a dog :) will be with you a while.
