John I've been trying to research what 250 watt halide would be the best all around bulb for say a 90g macro tank with softies and lps. Maybe eventually a clam. I guess what concerns me is that everything I've read so far puts the bulbs in the 6500-8k range for best growth. But there's got to be a "blanket" bulb that provides a good spectrum for all of the above mentioned. Have any insight? Anyone is more than welcome to provide input.

I have 2x250 Phoenix 14k bulb on my 70 gallon. Corals pop great. I have heard that 10k looks very white and 6,500k looks like urine. But i do believe 6,500 has the best growth if that is what you are looking for. I have it on my frag tank and i like it but not as much as my 1400k. The 14k has more of an icy blue tint to it and not too much white and not too much blue.

edit - lol i guess you can post the light bulb specs that isnt really top secret...:)

Lol. But it is top secret ;). I have a Hamilton 250 watt ballast with mogul sockets so single ended would be what I need. If you have bulbs (or a bulb) that would be awesome.

LOL vaguely! Hoarders would be a good show for me too. I never throw anything out that may come in handy in the future lol. Actually hoarding did come in handy recently. I built this grow out system with stuff I'd shoved in drawers and boxes over the years LOL
