    is there any benafits to using some halogen lights on the reef tank? what k are halogens?

    :sunny: I believe that the hottest temp a halogen will produce is 4200k. sun light is 6500k

    And most of us light our reefs in the 10K to 20K range ;D

    Halogen might work well over a refugium to promote macroalgae growth.

    The other thing is the halogen lights throw off a ton of heat (not that metal halides don't). I have halogen lights under my cabinets in my kitchen, and they actually warm up the counters if you leave them on for a while.
