I have a hammer coral that was looking really good. Last night I added 2g fresh RO water (for evaporation) Today I come home and he looks like this

I did pour the water on over his location. But seriously doubt fresh water did this to him. Here is my bubble coral next to him and he looks good

    My nitrates are 20ppm
    Nitrite 0
    ph 8.2
    water temp 77.8

    All my params are good

    My mushrooms look fine

Also what is this coral called again? My sun polyp that only comes out at night.....

My hammer looked exactly like that when I first put it in tank. I know mine was adjusting to the new surroundings, it's great now. Maybe yours just needed to adjust to the change in pH and such from fresh RO. I'd bet it will bounce back. Is your SG high enough?

This coral has been in my tank for about 4 months I had him higher up in the rocks and he started to look sucked in. I moved him down into the sand bed and he looked bettter than ever.

SG? salinity? Sorry noob here. it's 1.025 if that's what you were asking.

Yes, SG = Specific Gravity, which is how you can tell you have enough salt in the tank. Because it's more dense than non-saline water. What size is the tank? 2g might have made a decent salinity swing. Try to add more slowly next time and in the sump if possible.

Sorry, yeah salinity. That's a good level. I have my hammer on sand in a 75g, it likes it there, a bit lower flow. I've read that if the arms are flailing about that the skeleton can actually rip the tissue so mine moves well but when there was too much thrashing about, it retracted. I still suspect it is just reacting to a bit of a change in water. How long has it been in it's current location and is the flow okay and not too strong there?

Yeah, I'd say he'll be out in a couple days. It still got good color. Once that starts fading then you have something to worry about. Worst case scenario you'll have at least one head left.

Yeah, I'll check out your pics. Mine had a bit of stringy stuff coming out of it this a.m., now home at 5:20 p.m., lights are out but it had come out a bit more. I'm just watching it. I was hoping more info would come about this, can't seem to find too much in way of searching the net. I'll watch your thread, I don't want to jack it from you, but I'm curious!!
