Over the past week my hammers are fading away but everything else in the tank is doing great. I have 2 frogspawn colonies with about 20 heads each and 5 single frogspawn heads that i broke off the colonies and they are all doing great. Is there some big difference in care for hammers and frogspawn that i am missing?

Are the Hammer corals getting stung by any near by corals, is a clown fish residing in them?

Have you looked at night for predators?

Both Euphyllias so basically the same requirements.

Is there a big difference in flow?

Nothing near the one hammer and the other is close to some shrooms but it was doing really well and even split about 2 weeks ago. Now 2 heads are completely gone. And my clown never goes near either of them.

I havent checked at night for any predators but I havent added anything at all to the tank in probably 4 or 5 months so no possibility of new hitch hikers.

No difference in flow either. they are in the same spots that they have been for over a year. I think i am going to move them just to give it a shot. I dont want to lose them.

When I had these two corals I found that the hammer did better with a little less light while the frogspawn seemed to like more.Unfortunately mine were both killed by peppermint shrimp.Do you have any of those in your tank?

I am currently having the same issue. I did have a fairly large alk swing (went way low) about 2 weeks ago. Alot of my corals didnt look very well, but alk is back on track and everything else shot back up quickly. Not entirely sure this is the cause of my hammer issue, but you may double check your parameters.

I would still keep an eye out for predetors, I find new things in my tank almost daily.

Do you have a top off or a doser anywhere near the coral affected?

Please google Brown Jelly Disease, only because the corals died off so quickly.

I have a couple peppermint shrimp but they have been in the tank about 2 years and dont really come out. plus they stay on the opposite side of the tank and would have to climb over the 2 big frogspawn colonies to get to the hammers so i dont think its them.

I recently started using buffer and read that it can drop alk. that might be it, how do i bring it up? although all my other corals are doing really well.

I will be honest, i very rarely check my params. the tank is a 150 thats been running for over 7 years and the only time i test is when something looks off. but before that i will do a water change and usually corrects it. never had a problem with specific coral like this though.

Boils down to need to check those parameters occasionally.

May as well test just in case. It won't hurt anything and who knows what could show up. I admit it doesnt sound parameter related though.

I admit not testing may not be a good idea but i am doing well and like i said tanks been running for a long time. I will try to post a pic of the tank.

The main idea of this post though was to see if anyone knew of something that would harm hammers but not frogspawn.
