Just wondering, why do people carry guns? Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against them, I just want to know the reasoning behind carrying one. Is it the added security/peace of mind? I don't think I could ever keep a gun on me, I'd be way too afraid of it going off in my pocket and shooting my foot lol

Personally, my reasoning for the safety of my family. There have been several cases of shootings around here due to road rage and such. I don't so much want to carry it on me as I would just more comfortable having it with me in the car. There are a lot of weird people out here now of days. The main reason I want a gun now, is because when I leave for extended periods of time my wife says there are people messing with stuff outside of the house. How will it be before they try to break into my house with my family here and I am gone? So in short, it is for peace of mind. I have been deployed to Iraq twice and never had to fire a shot in combat thank God. I don't plan on using the weapon unless I absolutely have to.

Wow...that's pretty scary to have people moving things like that...does your wife plan on getting one too?

Not trying to start a pissing match but...... I don't get the lower caliber recommendations. You choose a carry gun for combat against a man size target. Now will a .22 or .25 stop a man, in a word, yes. Reliably? No. The typical armed encounter takes place under seven yards. Even at this distance I wouldn't pull a .380, given the choice. Granted, I wouldn't want to be on the business end of .22 at seven yards, but you are not engaging a sober, sane man in a gunfight. More than likely its some nut case jacked up on Meth or PCP.

The question used most of the time in combat training is, Do you want to prevail or just survive a gunfight? Certainly prevail is the correct answer. To prevail, you take a proactive approach with your equipment, training, and your mindset. Why put the weak link in this chain by going with a sub caliber firearm?

Rarely is a single round fired in police handgun shootings. The lowest caliber allowed for duty any more is a .9mm, and the standard being .40. To believe the engagement will be over after the first round is not realistic. Bottom line, there is no substitute for caliber and capacity. This must be balanced with ease of carry, and controllability.

I know people who carry .380's, .25 auto's and such, but I wouldn't trust one in a gunfight. I wouldn't strap on anything less then a 9mm or a .38 with +P's. In reality, if I am walking out the door armed, I am going with a .40, or .357.

    Just my 2 bits.

personally i'd take a revolver over a semi any day. i know it's going to fire. not even considering the .357 round is going to blow a hole the size of a softball when it leaves the body. dont F with my taurus .357 mag lol, i do agree it's a little big to conceal.

I'm happy for you. Be grateful you've never been robbed or mugged or both.

Besides, most good guns come with really impressive built in safeties. gun won't shoot unless it's in your hand and being squeezed

    Glock 19/22

I own the XDm compact 9mm and love it. I don't have the money for a Hi-power, but I really like shooting it. Glock has a cult following so many will tell you they are the best.

Good Morning and happy sunday to all !!
personal choice...all the above..Freedom is as freedom does..If you want to carry, do it..if you prefer to be a victim, this also is a personal choice. If I am carrying a weapon, you will never know it unless you try to harm my family or myself, or you are a witness thereof.
..and on a second note, if you go through all the training and weapon preparedness that was previously spoke of to prove you know your weapon...I cannot see how it can be said that "any" handgun is too big for a first time concealed ( that sounds more like "start small" learn as you go)...My first was a 1911 with shoulder holster...if you know your weapon, and you know the laws....and you live in this country, I would hope you would have freedom of choice to make your own choice....fyi, your NOT hiding it (badguys)...merely concealing it(goodguys).
STICKSMITH...go to a big gun shop...most allow you to try your purchase before you buy.. in their indoor range...opinions are great, but it can get convoluted...I was never privileged enough to go gun shopping...it was always gifted down from family...so I had to make do....now, I do have what I want...one semi auto pistol and 11 wheel guns....not counting 16 long guns....again personal choice..I'm sure you will end up with more than one....but ya better hurry !! LOL
Have a GREAT Sunday everyone !!
