Perhaps I have just been lucky so far and I have been using my bare hands but is it recommended that you should be wearing some sort of glove when handling live rock?

    Recommended, yeah. Do I? No.
Only thing I've had get me is a bristle worm, which sucked. Not sure why I don't use gloves lol

I too have never used gloves... I would guess the worst that could happen is you could find a mantis shrimp that could break your thumb wide open... But in reality chances are nothing will happen. (at least that's what I have always told myself)

Gloves are nice, but I have always been a bare hand kind of guy. I've never had any problems, but I am very cautious of where I place my hands (aka watch out not to touch any aipstasia)

At the risk of sounding stupid, why not touch apatasias?

Reason I am asking is because I just got a nice new 75 and I am at the stage of placing some live rock, the next question is ... with gloves, what type of gloves would be suitable - latex?

Dry rock sure, but live rock isn't just rock. I don't blame the op for asking, there's a lot of nasties on live rock that you may not want to be bare handing.

I use bare hands all the time and only I have had done was jab a piece of rock into my finger and gloves wouldn't have stopped that. I have a hard time wearing any kind of gloves with the exception of playing in the snow though.

This does sound like something I typically do but to be honest - my way has always to find the "recommended" manner and adjust to my needs.
