So im setting up a 90 gallon tank and it has a hole in the back right cornor drilled but no box to speak of. So i was wondering if i should build an internal overflow box or just use the hang on the back one it came with and seal this hole somehow. Suggestions ?

    Hi-

First, if that's a U-tube HOB and you're not sure if it's a higher-end unit, you may have a POS that loses siphon and causes a flood periodically.

Secondly, since the safest way to plug the hole is to install the bulkhead and a section of PVC with a cap, you might as well just use it.

Last but not least, if your not comfortable with building an overflow box, why not try to order a replacement? Any corner box for a tank with the same dimensions will work, regardless of the manufacturer. :)

I have had both and honestly, the built in overflow was the best decision ever. It is significantly more quiet as well IMO more ascetically pleasing as it is uniform.

Yeah, the drawbacks of going internal are; a loss of space, more expensive, has to be drilled. The drawbacks for external are; a loss of siphon might flood the house, loud as can be, hoses and pipes hanging out the back.

..sure wish I had the opportunity NOT to have the HOB experience. :/ LOL.
You will not regret going with the internal overflow....removes so many X factors...if ya can't find one online, I wouldn't be worried at all with fabricating one, especially if your pre drilled hole is in the corner. If ya make one take some pic's. : )

yea should be able to use a manufactured one seeing as the hole was cut there for one origonally but it was taken out to use on another tank. But well see...might be fun to build my own.
