For owners of the Hanna alk checker, I have a question. Does the reagent gunk up on you, forming clumps? I'm having problems with my checker, because the clumping is becoming so bad I can't get a "clean" 1mL from the bottle, and so I get inconsistent readings. How do you unclump it? Is it normal?

I'm assume u r talking about the photometer. The alk reagent with the powder formulae had been recalled and replaced with a liquid reagent. Contact Hanna to get it replaced.

I believe it's technically a photometer, but they call it a checker. It's a liquid reagent that came with it, though. It's just that that liquid reagent is getting clumpy bits in it. I've shaken it to no end, but the clumps won't dissolve.

I just got my HI55 alkalinity checker, after borrowing one from my local reef club. this one comes with a small syringe and a liquid reagent. No clumping of the liquid here, but it may expire or change due to extreme temps possibly. Is yours like this or different?

Mine is the same thing. The Hanna Alk Checker. I don't understand any confusion in that, as there's only a single alk checker on the market, only one model made by Hanna, and has been covered extensively by every reefer site in the known universe.

The reagent is packaged just like the stuff in the video, not a powder. The expiration date is 05/2012. I don't think it's been through any extreme temp swings, and I know it definitely hasn't since I got it back to my house.

Someone commented on there once being a powder reagent, just making sure there buddy.

I would contact hanna and tell them your problem, and see what they say. Sounds to me that something has reacted strangely with it. Whether it be moisture or something like that. Good luck
