I know of a hard coral but never see it open up even when I try to spot feed. It looks like of has trumpets on it and I thought something would come out of those.

Trumpet and candy cane corals will sometimes have small tentacles extend from the center.Try looking for them after lights out or sometimes in the morning before the lights are fully on.You may get a feeding response at other times of the day by adding a little food to the tank and then waiting 30 minutes or so.It would probably be good to reduce flow in the tank while feeding.

Are you saying you don't see any flesh on the skeleton, or just no tentacles from the polyps?
