    Hi all,

Looking at what plumbing I need for my new tank. I am still undecided whether to use hard tubing or flexible pipe. I understand that hard piping is safer and less prone to fail however it seems easier to use flexible pipe for maintenance work.

It would be good to know what people think about what method is preferred and why.

    Cheers,

I prefer hard. Flexible tends to get hard over time & algae will grow inside of it if there's lots of light.

It really depends on a lot of different factors.

I use all external pumps and nothing ever needs to move so I use PVC.
with plumbing from my pump to my skimmer I use flex because I pull it apart to clean it often. in smaller tanks I've had there was a mix, but I guess I found it easier to use PVC were things don't need to move a lot and flex where you may need access often.
My current tank has 140 feet of PVC and 18 inches of Flex tubing

Mmmmnn, the pipe work I am looking at is the overflow to the sump and the return pipes as well as a separate closed loop for the water movement.
As I dont have a sump at the moment I am thinking about how easy it is to remove the pipes for cleaning or if there is a problem.
