looking to add a aussie tusk to my 125 gallon fish only. never had one and i am afraid my tank may be to small. looking for some input from the tusk experts. this tank has no fish yet so i could add him first after the tank cycles. i included a pic of the tank to show the layout also. thanks for any input.

125g is Perfct for one imo. There are two different varieties; the Aussie and the indo. Aussies tend to cost a bit more (as with everything Aussie in this hobby). Adding it first will give it a chance to settle in as everyone I've seen tends to be timid, at least when they're smaller (under 5"). Beautiful fish, post pics when you get one.

I wouldn't get such a long fish in such a narrow tank. He's going to feel pretty cramped inside there. You would likely run into issues with having anything else in there that's in his way.

I love the Aussi tusk. If i didn't have coral and was given $200, I would get one.

Every one I've seen is coral safe, just not small fish/invert safe.

As for the length, they only get 9-11" and that's a maxed out fish in the wild. I think one would be fine in that tank, especially if the OP started with a smaller one.

My LFS actually had one in store today. That' the first time I've seen one there. He sad it was $70. He said, like you said VA, the only concern is the occasional ingestion of shrimp, snails and crabs. Since I don't have many of any of those, I may be in the market for one soon.

Your tank is big enough for that fish. I'm sorry but sometimes people need to chill on tank size specs. It's not like you throwing him in 55. The harlequin tusk will be a great addition to the 125 and I've seen more than a few fully grown and happy as can be in a 125. It won't feel cramped and I say go for it, there absolutely gorgeous fish.
