I only put this under ASAP because I found it in my liverock and was able to catch it. Right now I have it in a separate container and would like to put it back in my aquarium if its alright to do so.

I thought the gorilla crabs were really hairy. I guess it has some hairy legs.

i figure the rule of thumb is if it has black claws or pointy claws they are usually bad. This one has both, so I assumed it was bad, but why are they considered bad? coral eaters, invert eaters or do they go after fish when they are bigger? Could this guy have eaten shrimp or snails?

I don't have a sump so now what?

It more then likely a gorilla crab, also known as black tip crab. They will go after fish, inverts and certain corals from what I've seen. You could feed him to fish (chop him up) or just kill him. its up to you.

Doesn't look like a gorilla crab.
The very tips of the claws are white and a bit blunted like an emerald crab's are. Any way you can get a better pic?

What would help you get a better ID on this crab? A better/closer pic of the claws?

Looks like an emerald to me. Close up of the claws and/or eyes would be good.

I think it is a tiny stone crab. They are not reef safe if I am correct. It is the same family as the gorilla crab.
