    Man that makes me so jealous! lol I'm persitant at talking the wife into selling and moving to Florida..
    I would definately check with your Game,Fish and Parks before you go collecting. Also I don't know what time of year they form but you'll want to get the propugales that drop from the trees. I think you'd have more success with that than hacking on the root system or branches which may not do anything but kill the entire tree.

    you have to collect the seeds/pods those are red mangroves the same i have in my tank

    Same here, I have lived in FL my whole life. I have visited every state (Besides Hawaii and Alaska) and I won't live in any of them except my own! I wouldn't mind living in the Caribbean though! No offense toward anyone else, I just love Florida.
