Does anybody here harvest or collect from floral and fauna from the water near where they live? I am thinking of setting up a northeast atlantic tank. Any thoughts?

Thoughts? You could get in a lot of trouble if you violate any protection laws regarding collection. Most areas have strict regulations/guidelines as to what/where/when/how things can or cannot be collected.

Oh I agree i am not advocating doing it illegally, but hermit crabs, macro algae, snails, urchins, collectible fish, sponges, barnacles, there are a tone of things that you can collect LEGALLY and still have a pretty cool tank. I was just asking if anyone does it, I think I am going to set one up, the cost of the flora and fauna is $0 I have tanks no need for a heater. Why not

IF it's legal to collect them in your area I say go for it. Just make sure to research before hand and make certain you know what you are putting in your tank. Tons of things look very much alike and can be misidentified with ease.

There are all kind of field guides to use, if you look at some of the stuff off the english coast, off of the Pacific northwest there are some amazing things I bet off the Northeast in the Atlantic it is the same. I have seen some HUGE hermit crabs, tropicals that get blown in, baby horseshoe crabs snails heck even some of the bait fish, the sea lettuce you pay a fortune for at your LFS is free to collect and the fish love it.
All I am saying is we look all over the world for "neat Stuff" what is in your own backyard might be "neat".
