There’s no arguing that statement, that’s for sure. On the other side of the tourism coin, if the scenery is destroyed tourism dies. It’s all connected and we all need to do our share to protect what’s left – right down to the smallest hermit.

I am an avid diver, I travel the world just to dive. Many local dive shops with beach access have a small section of reef to support their livelihood. The shark comment might be a bit much – but I understood where the defensive position was coming from.

The thought of the barrier reef damage earlierr this year and now BP might hit the only reef north America has….it’s all too much.

Not to give any slack to BP, but there is more than one reef in N America. The reefs of central america (which is N. America) come to mind, and are all over the place (not to mention containing the second largest barrier reef in the world), cold water reefs in the NE and the neat ones up around Alaska.

A little bit of geographical education to you my friend: Central America is not North America! Belize has the second largest reef in the world!

PADI Divemaster for nearly 20 years myself and I live in a town that depends on tourism.

There are regulations in place, the strictest in the nation in fact, in Florida.

Thanks detective. I captain a reef snorkeling catamaran, so I know a thing or two about tourists and coral.

Anyway, I wasnt going for cool family fun, that's Disney's program. Don't come here for wild corals. Buy it through the proper licensed channels.

sorry dude, look it up. Central America is North America. There are only 7 continents. Central America is not its own if that's what you're thinking.

Belize is part of North America.

America is one continent divided in three North America: Canada, Mexico and USA. Central America and the Caribbean and South America. In the world there are only 5 continents not 7 look it up!

I am not saying Central America is a continent of its own but its not within North America its a third of the division of the whole American continent.
