i have a few tanks laying around and wanted to try something different, and thought maybe macro algae, maybe 1 or 2 fish, i got a 29, 40 and a 10. was thinking the 29, since i dont plan on a sump, skimmer, just a HoB filter

i just wanted any tips, advice, what i should do and what not. i will be doing research on my own but the problem there is sorting through the what is really needed and the not so needed info.

There is a member named Jake that has a beautiful tank with seahorses, a lot of macro algae and gorgonians. His tank is amazing! It's 50 gallons.

Just a few things we've learned over the years:

Fast-growers will generally out compete the slower growers.

Reds generally grow more slowly than greens, but most look better under dimmer lighting as they tend to brown-out or fade under bright lighting.

Don't try to add too many species at once, as some will tend to die off due to competition.

If you keep true vascular plants such as Penicillus sp. or true seagrasses, you'll want a very mature setup with a 4" sandbed, as these plants have roots as opposed to rhizomes.

Be sure to keep your fast-growers pruned and freeze the clippings overnight to kill them. This is the best way to keep them out of our waterways and oceans.
