well usually the corals are the first to go when your water is going south I would think the windex played a big roll in it i was always told never use windex it eats throught the silicone after time and it isnt very tank safe I just use oune wet towel with sink water and a dry towel after that

Personally I use windex on my glass after cleaning, but, I just give a couple pieces of paper toweling a spray of it in another room and do a light cleaning. works like a charm.

One thing that works nice for polishing the glass is a magnifloat...

I used the silicone with ammonia in it which is whats in windex. I did too big water changes and ran a lot of carbon. I am now keeping a full reef with no issues. Same rock same sand. I do use windex as well but I spray it away from the tank into the paper towel then wipe I would never spray it directly on the glass.

Do you run carbon? IMO it is a must for any reef.

Lava Rock is not safe to use IMO. It has a lot of minerals and probably some miscellaneous metals that would surely do harm to your tank.
