Did you have a look at that picture.......it looks no good..deff not aragonite..so it wont help me with my nitrates....What if I bought mostly this stuff...and put some aragonite in with it from my lfs?

sorry, the pic i had had two oolitic sands...and then quikrete...it was magnified 40x and the quikrete looked like glass...witht he other two looking like tiny ball bearings....So, I think im just going to get some southdown shipped up to me in good old Nova Scotia....even though its gonna cost me an arm and a leg.....if anyone knows anyone heading to Nova SCotia or anywhere in Canada.....please let me know..so I can get them to bring a few bags of southdown with them...Cheers.

<gresham chuckles> silica sand doesn't release silicia. The problem with it is that its mined, so it has very jagged edges (looks like broken glass was a very good description). Most bethnic critters don't like it, won'y thrive in it and sand sifters will die from it. So theres your problems with it. Oh, and it doesn't absorb phosphates, silicates or any other things, unlike aragonite. Aragonite will help you buffer a litttle, but it will allow the benthic critters to THRIVE and multiply. Both bad and good.
