My sincere opinion? Something doesn't look right. Since they will not even be honoring their own warranties....not building these units any longer?

Also, customer comments were from 1998, 1999, & 2000? That was over 10yrs. ago!!

Something about a siphon for a top-off reminds me of the siphon in an old overflow box in an undrilled tank = catastrophe!!!

You'll be using this for a long time, hopefully, right? For 15 bucks more, you can get a modern top off system with a great reputation from one of our sponsors including shipping!! (look at A.T.O. units from AquaCave: $89.99).

    Good Luck!!

Well, unless you wanna cart water or have somebody top off your system everyday. They've actually gotten pretty good lately.

If you leave town, have to work late, get thrown in jail (j/k, you never know)

They work on the same principle as a built in humidifier on a furnace. Float and switch. Water goes down in the sump...float drops triggering a pump to pump water from a reservoir into the sump raising the float to shut off water flow.

There are drawbacks i.e. switch stays open and all the fresh water gets pumped into your DT causing it to crash (just happened to a guy on this forum). Switch sticks closed and your sump gets too low and burns up the return pump (if you are not checking the water level).

Go to Melevs Reef & do a search. You'll get the picture.

    Melevsreef.com - Welcome!

You gotta decide dependent on $$, ease of use/setup, warranties, customer feedback, etc. Just like most other equipment.
ATO, JBJ, SpectaPure, Tunze are top of the line.
