Has anyone used carib's sea sugar aragonite live sand?

They have it at petsmart for 20$ for a 30lb bag. Has anyone used this stuff? If so what are the pro's and cons. Im thinking about getting 5 bags to start my 125 and not sure if it has silicates and all that bad junk in it. My future stock plans include a diamond goby so sugar sized sand would be perfect.

I have used it on two different occasions and plan to use it in a week or two.
Depending on your location, you can find some sand for cheaper, however this sand is a nice white quality sand.

There are no silicates and your diamond goby would love you for this sand ;)

I used that sand, though the "non-live" version, for my 90 gallon. It is great stuff! I recommend.

I used that for my fuge, I also used a couple bags of it for my display tank, and I intend to use it for my mantis tank build. $20/30lbs of aragonite at a big box store is a pretty good deal.

Is your tank going to be a reef tank? I only ask because this sand is terrible if you are going to have a lot of flow in your tank. You'll have dust storms like crazy with even the slightest flow in the tank. I went with the aragamax select which is one size above the sugar sized and I still have problems with flow near my substrate. I still have to point my powerheads up.

If I were you I'd go with the seafloor special grade reef sand. That stuff is awesome for gobies and will not blow around. It is a little more expensive, but I wish I would have gotten it.

I had a sps dominant with just shy of 70x turnover in a 50g... my sand stayed put. once the bacteria colonize it and create a biofilm it stays put

Wow in my 112G I have 2 Maxi Jet 1200's modded and pushing 1500 GPH and a 700GPH return pump so roughly 40X turnover and I still get bare spots where my powerhead moves all the sand. Not to mention algae on my substrate where I can't point my powerheads.

How deep is your tank and do you have ANY flow on your substrate? You probably keep your coral very far away from the sand.

i have 90 lbs in my 90g with enough flow for softies and lps and my sand has never moved from the powerheads. ive heard alot of people saying it moves alot, but i have not seen it. sure if u put a powerhead blasting at the sand bed its gunna move. just point your powerheads in the right direction and u should be fine imo

My sand moved at the beginning, but now that the tank has been set up for several months the sand doesn't blow around at all. I have a koralia 4 and an MP40 (turned up to max speed) and the sand doesn't budge. In fact, my koralia 4 is practically blowing right onto the sand.

Thats amazing, I've seen well established tanks at the LFS that have the special grade reef sand and that still blows around a little bit. My tank is only about 10 weeks old so maybe I need to wait to get that bacteria layer that your talking about. My fighting conches keep the sand pretty stirred up though. I'm pretty happy with my sand but it just would've been easier with larger heavier sand IMO.
