My sand blew around a lot at the beginning. I had massive sand dunes where the power heads were blowing (and they weren't even blowing right at the sand). But that stopped and now everything stays in place. So I think it does have something to do with age and gunk, and all that good stuff!

lol i grew out my frags on the sandbed and kept colonies all the way down till about 5" off the sandbed :p
it was 24" deep and i used to have a massive frogspawn in there from before it was all sps. i had to move it down to the sandbed in a corner and it still couldnt extend without getting ripped flesh haha

Thanks alot for the replies, as for the powerheads i'm not sure if I'll need any my return is going to be near 1k gph so I hope this will be enough flow. The dimensions are standard 72 7/8 x19 x23 5/8. I have two overflows as well each return has a T. So in total I have 4 returns if you get what i'm saying. I was thinking that with two T's this will even out the return instead of one massive blast of water correct me if im wrong? I have never had a closed loop before so im not sure how the flow will be.

My sand blew out of a specific corner for the first month or so, and now I have no problems with it. I'm pretty sure "wait till stuff grows on it" is what keeps it from blowing.
