I plan on changing my filter. I was thinking about getting the penguin biowheel. I really only use a filter to house my carbon and nitrate sponge, what size would I get? Should I get one for my tank size or could i go smaller?

Also with these filters, do you have to use their media or can I still just put the media I use in a filter bag and throw it in the chamber?

If you do not want to run the media I would just purchase a Phosban Reactor. This will be good for running Carbon or Phosphate removers I've even used Puregen.

Go with the Penguin 350. You can remove the biowheels if you dont need the bio filtration. You may need to purchase the media baskets with the new versions. The older version the 330 came with them.
You could go with the smaller size but you would be giving up the extra water flow and extra space for media.
