It's hard to say if it's live by looking at pictures. I'd pull this piece out asap and let it sit in the sun for a few days. And/or nuke it some other way.

Yeah, looks like bryopsis. You don't want that. I have some in my tank--no idea where it came from, but it sucks.

A lot of the rock you have looks like it has corralina--that's a good sign. The white rocks looks like they were dry but cycling your tank will make them live. Good Luck. K+

genuine live rock? not exactly too sure abou what you mean there, but yes, they are live rock but whether it's cured or not remains to be seen by yourself.. and if it's not cured, it will eventually be cured in your aquarium.. if you sell some rock odor, wait for a while because you get some some water parameter spikes, i hope you have some test kits

Where did you get the rock?
Did they call it base live rock?
did you smell the rock for odor?
live rock contains a plethora of beneficial microorganisms and bacteria that you can not see with the naked eye.
Having said this, you should try to purchase the live rock from a reputable dealer to not get scammed by someone placing dry rock into a tank an hour before saying it is authentic live rock!
Unless the live rock has sponge, algae, polychaete worms and micro crustaceans on it you won't really be able to tell by eye.

    Thanks for the responses

HI Guys, thanks for the responses - that bit of rocks out - (will sitting it under a uv for a couple of days be ok forit?, another query - byprosis, is that the name of the green grassy stuff?.

The worm, i should have photod it when i was putting the rock in, but i didn't i'm afraid and i've forgotten which bit it was in - i thought it was weird as when i put it in the water it started moving - it was spanning 2 holes, so i touched it and it came out of one hole (with its backin the other and kindalooked pointy - will look for it this evening and getapiccy

The rock was £5 a kg froma guy on ebay - so just wanted to makee sure it looked right and wasn't someuseless rock!.

Many thank sto all for the ressponses

Looks like it's half base and half live to me. Hard to tell in pics though. I caught an LFS in my area the other day selling some woman LR which was actually base rock. I don't really like the way they were toying with her so I told her what they were doing. The guy there is a ***** anyways! Either way.....it's looking good. Just get rid of that Bryopsis!
