    HI all,

I have a DIY CREE setup that is a couple of years old. Everything grows like weeds in the tank. SPS, LPS, Softies all are thriving even after a 2 1/2 hour move. My question is that everything I put in there eventually gets a brown/dull tinge to it. Everything is growing great. What supplemental lighting can I put in to make the colors stand out? Thanks.

I don't have any ideas on how to not get that brown tinge. I have had the same issue with my AI Sols for the past couple of years. If you want to add some supplemental LEDs to make the colors pop more, have you considered something like Ecoexotic's stunner strips?

Thanks for the info all! I am hesitant to change anything due to everything growing so well/happy. I think i'll try to add another strip to the fixture.

I'm doing the same thing to my 2 yr old Cree setup. You can also look at the exotic ocean coral white Leds from led group buy. They are deep red, cool blue, and turquoise on the same led board.

If they are still growing but just brown, could be acclimating to the light. Were they under different lighting before? (metal halides?) If so, they should color up in the next coming weeks. If not, I'd suspect high phosphates or chemistry off somewhere...

I don't think it is chemistry. The tank has been running for 3 years with the LED's and I have had the tank nearly a year. I have had no diatom issues and i have put some lps and sps in the tank over the past 6-8 months and they are doing great, just seem to lose their pop in the tank. I think it is a spectrum issue but thanks for the post.

My comment was referring to you stating a 2.5 hour move. I was assuming these were new sps from another tank. Sorry if I misunderstood.

gotcha, i mitigated the spikes from the move by:

having no substrate, moving no substrate

    moderate water changes
