I recently purchased a sailfin algae blenny. Didnt really remember that one day I would like a goby. The blenny is in my 40 gallon reef. What do you guys think?

Yes, you will be fine with a Goby, they are all compatible together.

The sailfin will get to big for a 40g though unfurtunatly.

A lawnmower gets to be about 5 inches max. I would think a 40G is just about the minimum size tank to keep this guy in. So long as you have blenny of algae for him to graze on I wouldn't think it to be a problem. I rarely, if ever clean my glass, because that's what I see him eating the most (film algae).

Somone misinformed you alright. Only it wasnt your LFS. A Sailfin Tang may get to big for a 40 gallon not a Sailfin Algae Blenny.

a 40 gallon is plenty big for a blenny. and yes they are compatible with gobys.

Ok i have seen a lot of people having problems with these blennies and their diet. i will try to spot feed spirulina to supplement since i dont have much natural green algae.

Interesting - I've got a Starry Blenny in a 150. I thought if I tried to add a goby I would have problems - is this not the case? Could I get away with it?

I'm curious what people think about this too. I've got a firefish goby and an algae blenny. They stay in different areas generally and I haven't observed any issues, though I just added the blenny last night. I was looking for another goby that would get along with the blenny.

Unfortunately my blenny passed. You can read it on one of my other threads, it was my fault also.... But still this is an informational thread for those that wish to learn about it.
