Well after doing some serious anthia research I have come to the almost certain conclusion that I was fooled by the stupid LFS(the bad one). They had some anthias for sale, and had them labeled as another type.. I have found that I have Purple Queen Anthias.. If anyone knows what these are, they have about a 5% survival rate in the aquarium.. Well now I get the pleasure of taking out my LR and corals to catch these stinking fish.. Lets just hope I dont get stung by my foxface..

    Thanks for the rant!

Oh and I know this is my fault for not doing better research.. so I take partial blame.

Most people accidentally starve them. They need to be fed numerous times per day. Also, depending on the supplier, the swim bladder might have been pinned which makes new purchases die soon after purchase if all conditions aren't perfect.

I tried to catch my male anthias as i dont like his domineering attitude.

needless to say i was unsuccessful in repeated attempts and he still resides in my tank. Good Luck!

    pardon the ignorant question:

what do you mean by a "pinned swim bladder"?

    that sounds terrible!

I read that they are from deep water.. Pinning the swim bladder to keep them swimming in the shallower depths..

if it's anything like red snapper..when you take a fish to the surface from deeper waters their swim bladder expands a bunch..and you have to puncture it for it to go back down.

That's what it is. You stick a pin through their side into their swim bladder and basically pop it. In perfect conditions, the external and internal wounds heal. In less than ideal conditions, this can be a source of infection (and subsequent death).
