Since mine died during a molt, I haven't had an opportunity to keep another one. If I didn't enjoy having only one tank in the house so much, I'd consider setting up another mantis tank.

    Yes, two of them.
They came from the Gulf Of Mexico, I am not sure what species they were.

I have a Peacock Mantis aquarium. "Mr Krabs" as the kids named him is real cool and alot of fun. He is real colorful, active and a blast to watch. Its always fun to feed him a big turbo snail, You can hear him hammering away on the snail from anywhere in the house! Id reccomend a Mantis tank to anyone. I keep damsels and some soft corals with him. The only thing you need to remember is he is DANGEROUS to fingers and body parts. Im lookin to set up a tank for a spearer next!

I have one right now in my Reef. I've only seen him once and he looked HUGE. I know were he lives because of the snail grave yard right outside his den. I have to get him out because snails aren't that cheap. But I will trap him and ensure he gets a good home

When I go to local reefers tanks to help them trap theirs, this is the first thing I look for.

Peacock mantis can. Most other species that you'll run across cannot.

I worked on a prawn trawler in the early 80's and they used to come up in the nets all the time.We called them prawn killers and their claws were prized possesions to hang around your neck.I had a 6ft. with undergravel driven by air stones. No powerheads then. The mantis were great for stirring the substrate up but they tended to eat afew fish.We got them abou 18 inches long and they could be quite vicious at times.Their attack speed is astounding and putting your hand in the tank was a hit and miss affair sometimes.I still have a scar on the back of my hand. They are a fascinating creature but I don't think I'd have one in my reef tank.
