Ok, so at the my hometown's elementary school they use aquarium carbon for some form of cleaning, not sure really. But anyway, there is a person at the school that has a 55gal saltwater and knows about my tank so he picked up some of the leftover carbon and gave me a couple of boxes. It's called Finny Aquarium Filter Carbon. I've never heard of this brand before and was wondering if anyone here has and what you guys thought of it. If you need a pic of the box, just let me know and I'll be happy to post one.

Sorry, I've never heard of it.

I'm not sure if there's much variance (if any) in what carbon is good for use in reefs, but unless you got a large amount, I would just skip it. Carbon's pretty cheap.

There's actually quite a bit of difference between carbon brands. This study is old but the chart at the bottom shows the variability. Tech Tips & Medical Reference

Be very careful about the source of your carbon. Many carbons are recycled carbon from municipal and industrial wate rand chemical plants that they heat up and regenerate. At my old water plant we would not buy regenerated carbons due to their history, you never know where it was before and it all gets combined in massive furnaces or kilns.
Use only a trusted source as it can release contaminants. Some virgin carbons even contain bad stuff too.

Yeah, I did a google search and couldn't find anything. I did a UPC lookup and it came back invalid UPC. I searched for the company, Finny Products Inc., and all I got was a cat/dog supply company.

Well, he already gave it to me. I got two 8 ounce boxes, not a lot.

Yeah, I read through that once, it was pretty interesting.

Yeah, I know you can get carbon really cheap, I just wanted to see if anyone on here knew anything about this particular brand before I either a) used it or b) get rid of it, which seems like what I'm going to do.
