Have you seen this bird?

If you've seen this bird and know where I can get more reading info on it I'd appreciate if you would pass it along. Three pics were forwarded to my email.
I'd like to know what unit it belongs to and if it's currently active. I'm assuming it is currently in Afghanistan. Thanks.

I have no idea, try Jane's guide I think I remember seeing one on military vehicles.

yes it's an eagle. sorry for the small pic. The kuhran (sp.) predicted an eagle rising up and setting fire to the desert so that's why I assume it's active in Afghan right now.

 

Isn't it spelled koran?

Is that a blackhawk? I've never seen one that isn't all black.

No it's an MI-24. I was able to find it last night. That particular one is active in Afghanistan right now.
I wish I could remember the title of the documentary I watched about Bin Laden and the Taliban. There was a good section about how they have rewrote the Qur'an (I googled it LOL) to suit their needs. That is where I learned of the original prophecy. Apparently the original teaches peace and predicts that one man will anger a giant eagle that will rise from the west and set fire to the desert. I don't know if that is accurate or propaganda but interesting none the less.

 

That sounds accurate to me. A friend of mine has read the koran for the heck of it, and he told me the same thing, that it is about peace.

 

That Hind is my favorite chopper of all time.

 

I love the gunships! At an air show I once parted with $75 to sit in the pilots seat of an Apache and put the helmet on for less than a two minutes. To see the targeting system with my own eyes was priceless.
