for some reason i am having slow die off of some of my snails and crabs. over the past month i have had two turbos die off and a hermit. i am also finding legs of my other crabs around my tank. don't know if i am seeing the same set of legs or some different ones but either way i am not sure what is going on in there. i had my numbers tested two weeks ago and today. everything is up to par. any input on what could be happening??

Is their sufficient food? How long has the tank been running?

The legs you are seeing may be from molting crabs.

probably just your tank setting its limits. Turbos need a TON of food, so if you're tank is young, prob not enough for multiples! And the same for the crabs. Let it run its cycle and in a few months add a refresher pack as your tank ages.

Turbo snails can be fairly short-lived in the common SW aquarium, as many come from cooler waters and the tropical conditions of our tanks is too stressful for them.

Personally, I prefer to keep all my critters well-fed, including my CuC. Along with additional fish food twice per day, I also supplement my crustaceans diet with chunks of raw fish or shrimp 2 - 3 times monthly. For the snails, any type of dried algae or seaweed weighted with a rock or seashell works great. :)

Id start a thread about the tang ASAP while you can save it! They can go south quick! I'm sure Kevin or ingtar will chime in soon and help!

turbos are not able to right themself when they fall off the glass, so it is not uncommon for a snail to end up on his back and die. As far as the crabs, you are most likely seeing molts. When they molt, it looks very much like they died. Do you have extra shells for the crabs to change into? You need to have extra shells for your hermits to move into, or else they can start to kill each others and snails for their shells?

ps......i responded to you tang question.......hope it helps

order them online at reef cleaners, salt critters, reefs2go, or ebay, a ton cheaper than the LFS, probably! If you don't give them extra shells, they'll kill snails for their shell!
