Is the head the distance of all the plumbing or just the vertical?

Example - My sump is in the basement - it goes up vertical 5 feet - then it goes horizontal for 15 and up another 5 feet -

so that is 10' head right? not 25'?

Head height is the vertical height, but it does get slightly more complicated, each fitting will add head (eg. 90's and 45's) a quick google search will dig up charts that will give you the equivalents. Sometimes a 90 can add 12" or more of head, but if you don't have too many fittings in the system, then I would just make sure that the vertical head is in the mid-range of the pump you are looking for and you should be good.

Cool that is what I thought. I only have one 90 coming off the sump and a wye under the tank to the duel returns. 1 inch into 3/4

my return is 1.5" I am using flex PVC as I had a few turns through the crawl space.

okay I am in a lot better shape - I was getting very concerned.
