I have been reading, learning, and researching everything reef here lately. I am building a tank stand and am researching the skills required to build cabinet doors and other things for this stand. Sometime I feel like I am over my head. I have been known to over think things but this is ridiculous. I tend to get distracted by an article or something I see that is interesting and I go chasing squirrels. I seriously don't understand how this is so addicting to me. I have learned so much in the last year of keeping my aquarium and I am so grateful to you guys for the guidance and info you give out. However so much information out there has me feeling like my head is about to explode, lol. The funny thing is I hate reading...

I have found that me having to save up money to buy my equipment is the main culprit.

Does anyone else feel this way at times?

I feel your pain. I find that focusing on one topic at a time works.

Totally feel your pain! It's taking me more time this go around on my 20 gallon rimless than I have ever spent. Also, I'm pretty sure I have dumped more money into this 20 gallon rimless setup than I ever did with my 90 gallon by far which is almost mind numbing to me. I'm on these forums every day reading and learning as much as I can. The more you can learn the better. And like the saying for 3Reef says "Go Slow, Let it Grow" which couldn't be any more true. Hanging up in my parent's house was an old saying too which relates to his hobby quite a bit. "Patience is a virtue, that carries a lot of wait." I hate reading too but if it is something you like and love it's not hard to really get into it really deep. Just keep learning and understanding everything and it will all come together.

    100% completely.
I read so much stuff that I didn't understand to get to the stuff that I did understand only to come back to it 6 months later and then it all clicks into place. I get to a complacent point in the hobby where I "think" I have a grasp on things, then I read about something different. Then it's down that rabbit hole and into full on reading/research mode again. Then you think you make progress and you look and see someones tank that makes me go back and look at mine and just go "boo". It's terribly frustrating and rewarding at the same time when you do have the upside of keeping a new coral for longer than you expected or it's growing fast or wicked as PE. The hardest thing to me is to not do a knee jerk reaction to something that doesn't go how I think it should go. I need to learn to just give it time and slowly adjust.

right now I have an itch to read about calcium reactors. However, there's no way I can afford one, so I'm doing my best to not read about one... If that makes any sense.

I'm trying to decide what to save my money up for next, a new tank build or a calcium reactor, new LEDs... the list goes on and on...

Have been in the same boat and found that simply trying to be more consistant on normal maintenance, particularly water changes, has done the most good. That and otherwise leaving things alone and not moving things or making changes in light or flow.My tank is a 40b mixed reef so yours could be a different story.
