I got my order of t5's today and had my diy fixture up and running for the first day. I have to say...I'm pretty proud of myself

    Before (Coralife PC 96w 50/50)

After (Diy dual fixture 2x24w each fixture)

I took the picture with my phone so the image does not justify the new fixture. Strangely, the picture of the old fixture look better than in real life. Of course I had to modify the fixtures I bought, which was pretty simple with a drill. I was surprise the entire fixture is a chunk of metal (aluminum?) so it's pretty heavy duty. The biggest modification I made to the fixture is replaced the 2 side attachments with stands. The best part is I can shine the fixture 360* just by turning it. I have the front one pointing at the wall of my LR and the back fixture pointing at the top of my LR. I was thinking about painting it black...any opinion?

I think you're right, the photos do make your old lighting look much better. Probably a camera thing there though.

Doesn't look bad, painting might be a good idea later on. What kind of bulbs did you end up putting in the fixtures?

no I use all ATI bulbs. So far I've seen huge changes in my mushrooms and polyps. They're opening more and the color is much brighter. Overall I'm very satisfied with the performance of these fixtures. I'm planning on replacing the metal grid on the fixture with acrylic panels.
