Is there a go to place for general healthy, not so healthy fish information? What would be great would be examples of healthy and unhealthy from different species, and what the unhealthy conditions and treatments are.

I look at my fish several times a day, they look great to me. But what the heck do I know?

Some general things to look for are, are they active, clear non cloudy eyes, fat and eating. Some bad things are cloudy eyes, to thin, gilling(breathing very rapid), torn fins or hanging out at bottom of tank. (If there not a bottom fish :))

Well let me take my blue tang for example. I think the answer would be "no" to all of the above. Although tangs are sort of flat, so I don't know if it's fat or not. But I also read that if they aren't getting enough to eat fish (in general, not just tangs) will start to swim erratically. I feed twice a day, and there is almost always a little food left over. Yet this guy has started to act like he is desperate to find food, darting up and down and looking all over the place all the time (except when the lights are out). So, how do I know if he's just playing, or something is wrong?

After I posted I thought of a better way to put it.

Are there behavioral signs to look for that may come with or without physical signs?

    this is +1

you should read more about the fish that you keep, blue tangs are known to be very very unpredictable and do some crazy things, so if the exterior of the fish looks to have none of the above symptoms, it is very healthy otherwise..
tangs in general tend to be always crazy for food when they are healthy, if they are not eating or barely eating, then there's your problem with that fish..
as long as they are eating, and don't look to have any of the symptoms, i'm almost certain they are very healthy
