So I was replacing my Aqueon Submersible heater today in my 90 gal Cichlid tank, the same heater I have in my FOWLR, and found the plastic heater clip was all but melted off. I never saw it in the tank as it was hidden behind stuff.

I was replacing it with the Marine Land submersible all plastic protected heater cause some of the larger more aggresive fish like to bank into things ans I was worried they would smash it.

So not sure what happened but heads up.

I had the same thing happen in my 55 gallon tank that I call the demon :devil:spawn tank. (tearing it down, nothing I repeat nothing stayed alive in it) I ended up throwing away the heater because I noticed the heater just kind of hanging there and when I looked it had burned the plastic all the way off around where the heater went it to the holder. I had the same situation, where the heater was hid behind rocks so I did not notice it, and I did not think much about it when I found it other then nothing is coming out of that tank into my other tanks. But wonder now if the plastic melting did not release some type of "poison" in my tank that kept killing everything. Nobody could figure out what was causing all my problems. My water params were perfect everytime it was tested (all the way until the end when I finally broke down and treated the tank with Lifegaurd...which caused everything to go bad but at that point was going to loose the last of the fish)

I wonder....the heater had the black plastic still attached to it, so when it heated, I bet it would melt just enough to release it in my tank:confused:. Dont know....as good of reason as any. And no that was not the tank that I had the fire in. Like I said it was a bad time to be a fish in my house. I took the last piece of livestock out of the devil tank and the next day I had a fire in my 75 gallon:furious3:and I am not as bad of fish keeper as it sounds (which sounds very bad I guess) But before this I was doing good...ask people that know me.....dont ban me from hobby!! Or maybe I need to be::)

It would be funny if it was not true....one night I turned on my moonlights and my lawnmower blenny eyes turned red and he started floating in the tank and I think something that looked like creamed peas shot out of his mouth and his head started spinning!!!...I heard what sounded like Latin coming somewhere from my house then and I realized it was coming from that fishie...I think that little blenny was saying something that was not good directed towards all my other tanks and the room turned cold and I felt pure evil coming from that tank. The next several days are history and a lot of good fish died...... But that one blenny is still alive and hiding in my refigume. I am scared of him.......:party-smi
