I just got a 125 gallon tank used and it came with a cheap $26 hydor Theo heater 400 watt heater rated 80 to 105 gallon tank. I had a 75 gallon tank I bought a nice $50 fluvial e series 300 watt rated for 100 gallons. I like this one because it has a built in led temp readout. Do you think I could use my old heater or stick with the one that came with the new tank? I hate that I can't post things for sale because I want to sell my old tank and would love to get it to someone on here because the forum is great. Thanks for any help :)

If you have enough room I would use both with the fluval set to do the work and the other as a backup. The Fluval may be enough if your ambient air temp is not too low,it,s worth a try.

    I agree with this.
With heaters it doesn't hurt to go big. I have a 150 watt on my 35 gal system.

room temperature is the ultimate factor. My tank cools really quick in the summer when my home ac kicks on and drastically cools the tank room!

in the winter my home is pretty much the same temp and my heater plays a small role.

I also had a nice digital heater I got used that pooped the bed one day so heater redundancy is very important. I use one now but have a temp alarm for high and low temps. I can throw in my waterchange heater temporarily if my main sump heater dies and the alarm sounds.

I have a glass thermometer in my display I check daily as a backup to monitor that my digital thermometer is accurate!

tank temp is vital, don't depend on one inexpensive piece of equipment which could wipe out everything!
