My heater, just your typical cheapo glass variety, doesn't stay stuck to the wall of my tank...the trim on the rim of tank keeps the top of heater out from lip of tank, resulting in no good suction from the 2 s. cups...ideas?

forgive me if this seems daft- if its a totally submersible one you can lower it under the water so it sits better against the tank wall

also try moving the suction bracket lower on the heater, as often it will stay put although its still on slight angle

Thx for quick reply Steve. Well the heater has a line at the top, right below vent area, (where the ziptie wraps around), that says "Water line" so I assume I have to keep the top of heater above water..I thought anyways.

Yes Jacwil - you do right , with that kind

I take it you dont have a sump then, as it would be fine in the sump, sit flat on the glass wall

There is a simple and cheap solution to your problem -- get a new heater. Sure, heaters are not sexy but they are important and also one the the items in your tank most likely to cause a disaster. Since the cost differential between a really good heater and your typical cheapo variety is small, it's a good investment to upgrade your heater to one that will give youless trouble. As Steve mentions, getting one that is fully submersible would solve your current problem without any further modification to your tank. Here is a random review of fully submersible heaters. Top Submersible Aquarium Heaters - Guide Picks I can't fully vouche for the content but it does cover the heaters that I have -- Hydor Theo. These were recommended to me by Jeremy at Premium Aquatics because of there reliability. My have only been in the tank for a few weeks but I am pleased with the features and the quality of construction.

I'm in plannings stages with a sump...it's going in the basement. I have a 20g acrylic sump a bud gave me, and also an empty 15g another bud hooked me up with. I wanted to go with a 55g sump because we plan to upgrade next yr but that 55 fell through soooo...I hope to have sump up and running in a cpl weeks. I guess until then I can let it be, (the heater issue).

I had my tank fully cycled before my heaters even went in. As a matter of fact, I added my heaters the same day that I added my fish.
