Heater was stuck on. Temp is at 90

    The contacts get corroded together causing the heater to stay on, your using an old style heater, they should be replaced yearly before they fail. New heaters offer silicon chip solid state technology with no mount parts, look for that on your new one.

    I agree with cooling the water by fan. It'll drop gradually. You're lucky nothing died though! Corals are more damaged by over heating than cold. Most can survive as low as 60 degrees for a few hours.

    Hmmm.... My heater on my 38g is 15+ years old, and the one on my 20g is 12+ years old. Both work flawlessly. I guess they don't make them like they used too.
