Since I purchased my 65gal aquarium to move and upgrade my 46 gallon I thought it might be time for a 300watt heater instead of a 200. I have the Fluval E-series in the 200watt for my 46 and like it very much, seems reliable and have had no issues.

To set up and warm the tank in prep for the move I bought a hydor theo 300watt for about $30. After reading reviews about them overheating I do not want to keep it on the tank and with two thermometers in the tank it does seem that the heater settings do not match the actual temp readings!!! I am thinking about getting the Fluval E-300 for about $55. Not sure if there is a better option that you guys wopuld reccomend or if I should stick with whats worked before.

Thanks been a busy few months!! Been house hunting and trying to get the new place ready!

Summer is always tough to be in this hobby too much to do outside with the ncie weather and without central air to much temp flucuation to add any coral to the tank with a clear conscious. I lost all my birdsnesy this summer and even had a lot of die off on my thriving montis and stylophora due to heat waves :( . I became so disgusted with the tank due to the corals looking under the weather and the cyano blooms that I havnt taken any photos or anything. I also had a massive snail die off for some reason but all fish are great!! Hopefully it wasnt a trace metal issue since I do still have some snails and hermits and the corals are all bouncing back now that cooler stable temps took over.

On the plus side though winter is here, I have a larger tank, and the new house has central air!!! I also built this new stand to make maintence and additional equipment placement MUCH easier. I am actually excited to expand since even cleaning the walls on the bowfront is such a hassle and the placement of rocks made it impossible to clear certain areas.

sorry about your losses but congrats on all of the positive developments! I also upgraded and have a sump now. I'm reefin' with the big boys now lol....my new tank is a 65 gallon wide and I'm really liking the additional room from my 54 gallon corner which was also a bowfront and difficult to scape.

Do post some pics of the new set up! Would love to see the stand you built.

I got the 65 wide as well. I know it's still only 3ft wife instead of 4ft like on a 55 75 or 90 but it allows me to keep my current lighting. I love how wide and tall the tank is too for now the scape will be the 46gallon rock the same way probably but will eventually redo it in the future.

Still no sump for me but I have the room behind the tank for an overflow and underneath to add later.

I really like the tank size. I picked it also in part because I could use my existing lighting. It really had to be able to fit in the corner as well.
