    i had that problem when water moved fast around it like in my sump it made my heater think it was like 76 all the time so it kept making my tank up to 80, dont buy pacific coast imports heaters they worp and bend and are just plain crap.

    We mustn't forget our water temperature in our tanks can become elevated, due to POWERHEADS and PUMPS as well as lighting, room temperature, canopies and glass covers.
