Mushroom looks like it is toast. Hard to say exactly what happened.

You might be able to frag it, but I doubt it.

I have the same ones in my tank, and have had the smallest piece grow into a whole new one. Hopefully, it will work for you.

The bridal netting might be irritating it. Usually when they expel their mesenterial filaments, there's a coral nearby they are fighting with. I don't see any nearby corals. I would take off the netting and see what happens.

The bridal veil method usually works well.

Another method is to use a small piece of PVC tubing or a glass. Fill that up with CC rubble. Put the mushroom on the rubble. Then rubberband the bridal vail to the top of the tube. Wait a week. The mushroom should have attached to the rubble. Now you can just use superglue gel to glue the rubble to your rock.

Yes, you can purchase them already on a rock. Most times LFS will simplt call it "Mushroom Rock". I know you wanted to keep it where you had it but it will eventually find a place and settle there and attach to something. If down the road you see it attached to the substrate (in a calm spot in the tank) or a small rock, you could move it to where you want. Leave it alone for 3-4 weeks for now.
