Thanks for the encouragement, I can use it. Yeah, I am loving the BB so far too. I can hit this reef with some HARD CORE flow which will eventually make the SPS happy again.

Looks like you are on the right track to a healthy recovering. Just keep your chin up and your head held high and you will get through this all just fine.

Bigger difference is that you know a lot more than you did a year ago. You've made a lot of progress already with the new tank!

I'd say, for that that tank has gone through over the last few weeks it is looking really good. Keep it up, and we are all glad you decided to stick it out so we can continue to see your beautiful stuff! Good luck!

Your tank is still looking better than mine too.
Sorry to hear of your losses and hope all your corals come back bigger and better than ever.

Aww thanks guys *blush* I am down to 20 on the nitrates and .05 on the phosphates. So that's a good thing for sure. Stuffs still brown but I am seeing some diatoms on stuff so I am thinking a cycle is on its way out... Woo hoo!! Starting to pull some super nasty in my skimmer to so the bio pellets may be starting to work a bit. Hope for a small bacterial bloom! I can't handle a big ol cyano/ Dino thing right now :(
Again thanks for the kind words, man I love this place!

Happy birthday Heidi's 150! (getting all technical now :) )
Since I started using better salt mix I have gotten on a stability kick as of late. I know, I know "you're just now trying to keep things level?" Listen remember this is a learn as you go kinda hobby. I have been at it only a year and a half (with a filled tank ....before that I read a bunch) But some of this stuff is really trial and error. So in the mail tuesday I got my BRS 2 part dosing system with the magnesium salts as well. I mixed up all my stuff!! Up till now I have been testing my tank weekly before and after my water change to see where my levels go. My calcium really doesn't move much (wont need to dose that for a bit). My Mag. goes down from 1400 (fresh mix) to 1380 which to me is good enough for now. ( I plan on raising it up to the 1400 and trying to keep it there as that is where my salt mix sets it) My Alkalinity now thats where my issues are. My fresh mix salt mixes to 12.2 (don't worry i am not going to try and keep it there... IMO thats a little high for a low nutrient tank and I don't want to fry stuff) After a week my tank drops to like 8 or 7 dkh... thats crazy inconsistency. When I water change right after it is about 10 dkh so I am going to try and keep it there at 10 dkh. So Wednesday after I mixed up my stuff I dosed enough of the alk part to raise it .5dkh. Tested then at 7, on it's way still to the 10 dkh...(test yesterday showed 9dkh) First thing next pay day I am buying a Hanna Checker for my alk and for my phosphates. For the alk to get and stay stable I really need to be doing ppm instead of the simple Dkh on the cheapo tests. I am going check every day for the next week to see how the alk moves.
Soooo, I have a reef tank, over the year I have kept coral alive.. decently colorful, but now I wanna grow them. Consistency is KEY, so over the next year I will be taking my tank to a whole new level!

    Goals for the next year:

*buy dosing pumps for Alk, Cal, Mag, MB7
*keep on keeping on with the bio-pellets
*get an auto top off hooked up. (fresh water made into 30 gallon basement with float switch from my rodi in basement, to be pumped upstairs via dosing pump) . . . yup I still dump in about 2 gallons a day... manually
    *figure out flow.. vortechs?
*figure out substrate (keep it bare bottom?? or something new?)
*paint the back on the new tank black... that is driving me crazy...
    *grow colorful corals!
    Wish me luck!
    Happy Birthday to my reef!
    Heidi
