Thought I might give everyone a quick introduction. New to the site but not reefs. I have 20 years keeping reef and have seen the hobby evolve quite a bit in that time. I have a pretty good understanding of what is going on and what works for me.
My current setup is just over a year old, a 480 peninsula style reef. Just about have all the bugs worked out, but since I am OCD I have problems just leaving it as it is. Probably why my lights still don't have a skin.
    Tank 8' x 4' x 24"
    Sump 100g
ATB in sump skimmer, 2 nextreef canistors with gfo and carbon and a little chaeto ball, ozone, Reeflo Hammerhead for return DIY ca reactor
    Apex
    Circulation is 4 Tunze 6105s 2 Tunze 6101s and 2 Tunze 6201s
    Lighting 2 - 250w MH with 20k radiums and 216 3w cree leds

    Hello RickM.

Nice to have another experienced hobbyist on board.

Sweet lighting system. How long have you been using the LED and do you have any established sps growing in the new system?

Wow nice setup! My next tank will be a peninsula. Not quite that big though.
See you got a orange shoulder tang. Love those guys. What kind of wrasse is that?

    Thanks for the welcome.
The LEDs are still fairly new. I put the first 2 36 bulb led fixtures in about..hmm maybe 6 months ago. I started with 3 400w and 4 6ft VHO. The 400s were too much light and most of the LPS and chalices didn't like it. WHen I say didn't like it I mean it bleached and killed several. Even on the edges of the tank. So I changed to 250s and then changed out one fixture for the 2 36 bulb led. Its a DIY I picked up used fairly cheap using older Crees xre and what ever the equivalent whites are, I forget. I started them at 50% and after a month ramped up to 60. At 60 it burnt the chalices on the bottom, almost lost all of them. So turned it back down to 50. Then about 2 months ago I finally did stage 2 of the changeover and removed the vho and put up 6 fixtures of 24 royal blue, 3 on each side.
I have 2 more fixtures of 12cw and 12 rb built but with te par reads don't think I really need them.
And yes I do have established sps in the tank that are growing under the leds
some named one but I forget the name

Interesting, should be interesting to see the tank/corals when all is said and done and the corals acclimate to the lighting and you get in dialed in. You know you can grow almost anything requiring the most intense lighting now.
Could the unnamed sps in image one be a Pearlberry? Must be doing somethings very right the SSC looks nicely encrusted.

Thanks, I like tangs, the orange shoulder seems to be keeping his juvenile colors, he turned grey after I got him but I think because there are more dominant tangs in there he reverted bac to juvenile. Thats a hawaiin flame wrasse, beautiful fish and you have a good eye to see it in that little picture.
    Thanks
Thanks, not really a good shot of the ssc, it's top down. I think the other is something I got from Keeperz but before pearlberry was popular. Maybe rr grape juice, hard to say though. Not good at keeping up with names.
