Hello everyone! My name is Jack and I am new to this forum and Saltwater Aquariums.

I currently have a 46 gallon bow front tank with some live rock and a few "critters." 2 Green Chromis, 3 Yellow Tail Damsels, and a Yellow Tang for fish. As well as a Banded Serpent Starfish a snail or two and a couple hermit crabs.

I had added a Peppermint Shrimp but have not seen him since he went in the tank..... Fingers crossed he is alive and hiding! :)

I look forward to learning more here, and growing my aquarium!

    Thanks all.

Re the Tang. The local store indicated that would be ok for my tank? They seem to know what they are talking about and have some nice tanks of their own in the store.... but being new they could tell me I could put baby kittens in there and I may not know...... (ok maybe not quite that extreme....)

Hello and welcome! Just remember, watch the bio-load; more fish = more waste = decline in water parameters! Enjoy the hobby and this forum, they are both very addictive!

    Hello Jack,
Tangs are very active swimming fish. Yellow are of the smaller species but will require a 48" tank to grow happily in. Its a misconception to think because a fish is a juvenile that a smaller tank will suffice. Your LFS should not have recommended this tang for your tank. My LFS sold me and recommended a powder blue tang for my 45g. I thought the same as you when i started this hobby. Recommended tank size is to keep these fish happy and healthy, if they are in a space too small, they will become territorial, and develop disease quite easily. Please take advice with a grain of salt, we are all on here to help each other and make sure we all have happy healthy tanks, Your LFS purpose is to make a profit. Remember this always, research, research, research will be your best ally in this hobby.
