Hey I'm Ben. I am a newb to reef-keeping and I just graduated college and luckily found a job. I am very interested in buying a tank soon and starting it up.

So far I have my eyes on the biocube 29g HQI and the RSM 250 66g.

    good to be here!

    welcome!
There are a lot of things to consider before buying your tank. Good job joining a forum first. you should research and figure out your plan of attack before you buy anything. When you buy one thing you get caught it what can be a bottomless hole for money haha. First figure out what you want to and can keep and then get the things needed for it. Just saying this because your thinking of a 28 HQi; thing about this is that it will allow you to keep lots of corals further down the line once its established. In order to make a metal halide worthwhile you would probably be wanting to keep sps otherwise another lighting fixture might be better. I say this because with a metal halide you may end up facing heat issues and having to spend another 500 bucks on a chiller and the the money to run both of those.
Just saying you should probably find what interests you the most and start from there. You dont want to get stuck with a self contained tank that you cannot modify to suit what you want to keep
